We photograph destination weddings across Provence — châteaux and bastides in the Luberon and the Alpilles, wine estates with long tables under plane trees, and hilltop village halls for the civil ceremony. Two photographers, on site two days early, from $22,000.

The weddings here are château weddings: a stone house with a courtyard, an avenue of plane trees, a long table under them, lavender or vines beyond, and a dinner that starts late and runs very late. The form is well established and the vendors are excellent, because this region has been doing this for a long time.
Two things to plan for. Lavender is a narrow season and people are consistently surprised by how narrow — roughly late June into July, and it is cut once it is ready regardless of your date. And the mistral itself, which can blow hard for three days and will take a marquee, a veil and a hairstyle with it.

Two things get established in those two days. The first is where the mistral comes from at your property and what the sheltered alternative actually looks like, because on an exposed château terrace that wind will take a veil, a hairstyle and the side of a marquee. The second, if your date is in the first half of July, is whether the lavender field on your mood board is still standing — it is a working crop on a short season and no venue controls it.

Will there be lavender for our date?
If your date is in the first half of July, very probably. Late June is a gamble and depends on the year; August is too late — it has been cut. We will tell you honestly rather than let a field appear on a mood board that will be stubble when you arrive.
