Destination Wedding

A destination wedding is a different commission from a wedding, and pretending otherwise is how photographs of a lake end up looking like photographs of a function room. The difference is not the flight. It is that nobody involved — not you, not your guests, often not your planner — has stood on the terrace at seven in the evening in that particular month.

So we arrive two days early. We walk the venue at the hour of your ceremony, not at the hour we happen to land. We find out whether the boat can be held, whether the light on the west terrace has already gone by the time the toasts begin, and whether the walk to the vantage everyone photographs takes four minutes or fourteen in the shoes you will be wearing.

That reconnaissance is included, not extra, because a destination wedding photographed without it is a wedding photographed by a tourist.
