Proposal
Photographed from a distance, by someone who was already standing there.
A proposal has to be photographed without being staged, which means the photographer is in place forty minutes early, at a distance, with a long lens and a plan for where you will both be standing. We agree a signal and a direction of approach. Nobody is introduced, nothing is repeated.
The first frames matter more than the rest and they last about nine seconds, so everything else is arranged to make sure someone is pointing the right way when they happen. Afterwards, once the shaking has stopped, we come and say hello and make twenty minutes of portraits.

What if they say the plan out loud and it changes?
It changes often, and it is fine. We agree a fallback position and a second hour when we plan. What we will not do is ask you to walk back and do it again.
Can you help choose the place?
Yes. Tell us the city, the date and roughly the hour, and we will come back with two or three places that will be quiet at that time, have the light behind you rather than in your eyes, and do not require a permit.
