Most of what is said about Mallorca describes the wrong half of it. The weddings are in the Tramuntana — a limestone range along the northwest coast, terraced in olives, with stone villages and a road that drops to small deep bays — and it looks nothing like the airport you landed at. A finca up there gives you the Tuscan form with harder light and a sharper landscape, and three hours from London rather than a day of connections.
That accessibility is the actual argument. A wedding weekend needs guests who can arrive on Friday, and direct flights from most of Europe make a three-day event realistic for people who could never give you a week in Italy. The cost is the mountain roads: they are narrow, they wind, and a coach to Deià takes considerably longer than a car does. We build the transfer times from the coach, not from the map.
The light

May to June
Green terraces, wild flowers on the mountains, warm days and cool nights. The best of the year.
July to August
Hot, dry and very busy. Hard light until evening; the courtyards and the stone are what make it workable.
September to October
Warm sea, softer light, the almond and olive harvest, and the island returning to itself.
What has to be planned for
- The Tramuntana roads are narrow, winding and slow. A coach on the road to Deia or Soller is a real constraint on the schedule.
- Direct flights from most of Europe land at Palma, which makes this the easiest island on this list for a large guest list.
- August is the island’s busiest month by a considerable margin, on the roads and everywhere else.
- Many fincas are working properties. What is accessible and when is agreed with the owner rather than assumed.

Questions
How much is a Mallorca wedding photographer?
From $22,000 for a destination wedding with two photographers and two days on site beforehand. A full wedding weekend covering the welcome dinner and the farewell lunch starts at $28,000. Travel is quoted at cost.
Mountains or coast?
The Tramuntana, almost always. Stone, terraces, olives and a sea view from height photograph better than a beach does, and they give you shade at four in the afternoon.
How difficult are the roads?
The mountain roads are narrow and winding, and a coach to Deià or Sóller takes considerably longer than a car. We build the schedule from the slowest vehicle in the convoy.
When should we come?
May, June or late September. May and June bring green terraces and wild flowers on the mountains with warm days and cool nights; September gives a warm sea, softer light and the island returning to itself.
Is a finca available for the whole weekend?
Most are taken whole, which is what makes the weekend commission work here. Many are also working properties, so what is accessible and when is agreed with the owner rather than assumed.
Is August a bad idea?
It is the island’s busiest month by a considerable margin, on the roads and everywhere else. The light is hard until evening and the villages are full. June or September give you the same island with room to move.
