Proposal photography in London
Private clubs, garden squares and the best grey light of any capital in Europe.
The thing that makes London awkward for a proposal is the same thing that makes it good: it is not one place. There is no single view the city is famous for, so the choice is genuinely yours — a garden square in Belgravia that looks like the countryside, a bridge with the river doing the work, a park at the hour the deer are out, or a Georgian terrace where the stucco throws light back into both your faces.
The weather is not the risk people assume. An overcast London sky is an enormous softbox: the light is even, nobody squints, and there is no hard shadow cutting across a face at the moment it changes. What grey removes is the long view, which a proposal does not need. We plan for the position and the approach, agree a signal, and work handheld at distance — which is also what the royal parks permit and a tripod is not.

April to June
Blossom, then long green evenings. The most reliable stretch of the English year and the busiest.
July to August
Warm, occasionally hot, and half the city away. Light until late and rain on any given day.
September to October
Low gold light down the terraces, the parks turning, and soft grey days that suit the stone.
What has to be planned for
- Venue end times are set by licensing rather than by the venue, and they are firm.
- Short distances take a long time on a Saturday. Every move between addresses is planned as a transport problem.
- The royal parks distinguish between personal photography and anything with a tripod or a crew; the latter is permitted ground.
- Many of the best rooms in the city are in private clubs with restrictions on where photographs may be taken and what may be published.

Questions
How much is a London wedding photographer?
From $14,000 for a full day with two photographers, a venue walk beforehand and a planning call. No travel charge within the M25. Most London weddings land between that and $20,000 depending on the length of the day.
Is grey weather bad news?
No, and it is worth saying clearly because everyone worries about it. An overcast London sky is an enormous softbox: even light, no squinting, no hard shadow across half a face. The photographs we like best from this city were taken on days the couple apologised for.
How do we plan around the traffic?
By reducing the number of moves. Short distances take a long time here on a Saturday, and every address you add costs more than the map suggests. Where three venues are unavoidable, the portrait window is placed to survive the worst of it.
What time does the evening have to end?
Whatever the licence says, which is the building’s decision rather than yours or ours. Worth confirming before the band is booked.
Can you photograph in the royal parks?
Handheld and without lighting, yes. Anything involving a tripod or a crew is permitted ground and needs an application — we will tell you which category your plan falls into before you assume it.
