The old towns are at their busiest exactly when weddings want them, so portraits in Dubrovnik’s and Split’s historic streets are best planned for the early morning, with the evening kept for the terrace and the sea.

What a Croatia wedding is like
Dubrovnik is a walled town of polished limestone streets, terracotta roofs and the sea on three sides. The stone reflects the light, which makes the old town bright even in shade and gives faces a clean, warm fill. Split is built into and around a Roman palace that people still live in, so a portrait walk passes arches, courtyards and cafés within a few streets.
Hvar is pine forest, stone villages and a harbour town, with the small islands offshore reachable by boat. The Adriatic is unusually clear, and the coastline of coves and headlands gives a great deal of variety close to any venue. The evening light across the water is soft and long, and the sea itself is part of most photographs here.
Croatian weddings are generous and long, with a big dinner, local wine and music that carries on late. Many destination weddings here include a boat, either for guests or for the couple’s portraits, and we plan it with the light and the sea conditions in mind.
Practicalities
Before you plan
The season runs from May to October. June and September are the most comfortable months; July and August are hot and the old towns are crowded with visitors. The sea stays warm well into autumn. For peak summer dates, booking nine to fifteen months ahead is typical.
Civil marriage in Croatia is possible for foreign couples, with documents prepared in advance, and many couples choose a symbolic ceremony and complete the legal part at home. Your planner or the local registry office will confirm what applies to you.
Dubrovnik and Split both have airports with good seasonal connections across Europe. Hvar is reached from Split by ferry or catamaran, so the timetable shapes the guests’ arrival and departure. The coastal road between Split and Dubrovnik is beautiful and slow.

Getting married in Croatia
How much does a wedding photographer cost in Croatia?
Our weddings in Croatia start at €1,450 for Half Day coverage of up to five hours with one photographer, €2,250 for Full Day coverage of up to ten hours, and €2,950 for a Destination Wedding covering the full day. Elopements start at €850. Travel and accommodation are quoted separately, itemised and at cost, and exact pricing is on request through the inquiry form.
Can we have portraits on Dubrovnik’s city walls?
The walls are a ticketed monument with their own opening hours and rules, so photography there needs checking in advance, and they are busy for most of the day. The streets and small squares of the old town are quieter early in the morning and give much of the same character.
How do guests get to a wedding on Hvar?
Usually by flying into Split and taking a ferry or catamaran to the island. The timetable decides when guests can arrive and leave, so it is worth building the weekend around it. We plan our own crossing around it too, and when it helps we travel early; that is agreed per inquiry.
Can we marry legally in Croatia?

What is the best month for a wedding on the Croatian coast?
September, for most couples: the sea is at its warmest, the crowds have thinned and the evening light is soft. June is a close second. Nine to fifteen months ahead is typical for booking either.
Do you photograph elopements in Croatia?
Yes. Our Elopement commission starts at €850 for two hours with one photographer, with help choosing the place, the hour and any permission a location needs. A boat to a quiet cove off Hvar, or an early walk through Dubrovnik before the gates get busy, both work well.
