The single most useful thing to know is that Spain runs late: dinner at ten is ordinary and dancing goes on well past midnight, so the hours of coverage need to follow a day that starts later and ends later than at home.

What a Spain wedding is like
Spanish light is Mediterranean and strong, bright enough at midday to flatten a face and generous enough in the evening to make up for it. On Mallorca the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana throw long shadows across the western villages, while the fincas of the interior sit in open olive and almond country. Ibiza is whitewashed walls, pine and a western coast known for its sunsets.
The cities are a different wedding. Barcelona has the Gothic Quarter’s narrow stone streets, the modernista façades of the Eixample and the sea at the end of it all. Madrid is inland, grand and dry: wide avenues, palaces, formal gardens and a warm, low autumn light.
A Spanish wedding keeps its own hours. The ceremony is often in the early evening, the cocktail hour is long and generous, dinner begins late, and the dancing lasts into the small hours. We photograph the whole of it at that pace, and we usually place the portraits in the golden hour between the ceremony and dinner, which Spanish timing makes easy to protect.
Practicalities
Before you plan
May, June, September and October are the most comfortable months. August is very hot inland and at its busiest on the islands, and many Madrid businesses slow down for the holiday. For peak summer dates on Mallorca or Ibiza, booking nine to fifteen months ahead is typical.
Civil marriage in Spain is generally difficult for non-resident foreign couples to arrange, so most destination weddings here are symbolic ceremonies, with the legal part completed at home. A Catholic church wedding may be possible with the right paperwork. Your planner or the local civil registry will confirm what applies to you.
Mallorca and Ibiza are reached by frequent flights from across Europe, and by ferry from Barcelona and Valencia. A high-speed train links Madrid and Barcelona. On the islands a car is essential, and the mountain roads of the Tramuntana are winding and slow.

Getting married in Spain
How much does a wedding photographer cost in Spain?
Our weddings in Spain start at €1,450 for Half Day coverage of up to five hours with one photographer, €2,250 for Full Day coverage of up to ten hours, and €2,950 for a Destination Wedding covering the full day. Elopements start at €850. Travel and accommodation are itemised at cost, and your exact quote depends on the date, hours and travel; we send it in reply to your inquiry.
Our dinner starts at ten. How many hours of coverage do we need?
More than you would at home, because the day runs later. For an evening ceremony followed by a late dinner and dancing, Full Day coverage of up to ten hours or a full-day Destination Wedding is usually right. We look at your schedule and suggest where the coverage should start and end.
Can we marry legally in Spain?
It is generally difficult for non-resident couples, so most choose a symbolic ceremony in Spain and complete the legal part at home. A church wedding can sometimes be arranged with the right paperwork. Your planner or the local civil registry will confirm what is possible for you.
How far ahead should we book for Mallorca or Ibiza?
Nine to fifteen months is typical for a summer Saturday on the islands. May, early June and late September go quickly. Weekdays and October dates are easier and worth asking about at shorter notice.
Can you photograph in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter?
Yes. The streets are public and photograph well, but they are busy for most of the day, so we plan portraits there early in the morning. Churches and some historic interiors have their own rules for photography, which we check with you before the day.
Do you photograph elopements on Mallorca or Ibiza?
Yes. Our Elopement commission starts at €850 for two hours with one photographer and includes help choosing the place and the hour. The Tramuntana coast on Mallorca and the western cliffs of Ibiza are both lovely at the end of the day.
