Wedding photography in Athens
We photograph weddings and elopements in Athens and along the Athens Riviera — rooftop receptions facing the Acropolis, Orthodox ceremonies in Plaka, estates in the northern suburbs, and seaside venues in Vouliagmeni, Varkiza and Sounion.
The most useful thing to know is that Athens is two weddings in one: the city, with the Acropolis as its backdrop, and the coast, with the sea — and moving guests between them takes real time, so most couples choose one for the evening.
Athens has a light that is hard and white at midday and turns honey-coloured late in the afternoon, when the marble of the Acropolis goes from grey to gold. Most of the city’s wedding photographs are built around that change. A rooftop in Plaka or Koukaki at the right hour has the Parthenon lit behind you, and the hills of Philopappos and the Areopagus give a clear line to it with pines and old stone in the foreground.
South of the city the Athens Riviera runs along the Saronic Gulf, from Glyfada and Vouliagmeni to the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion. Here the venues are on the water, the light is open and the evening sun goes down over the sea. It is a different wedding from the city one, with more space and more wind, and the two are closer on a map than they are in traffic.
Greek weddings have their own rhythm. An Orthodox ceremony moves through the crowning, the shared cup and the walk around the table, each of which is brief and worth anticipating, and the celebration afterwards runs long into the night. We plan to be in the right place for each moment of the service, and to keep the portrait time before dinner protected from the heat of the day.

Philopappos Hill
Pines, stone paths and one of the clearest views to the Acropolis. Best in the hour before sunset, when the Parthenon turns gold and the city behind it softens.

Plaka and Anafiotika
Whitewashed houses and narrow stairs under the north slope of the Acropolis. Quiet early in the morning, and shaded for much of the day.

Areopagus Hill
A marble outcrop right below the Acropolis entrance, open to the whole city. Busy at sunset, calmer at sunrise, with the rock polished smooth underfoot.

Lycabettus Hill
The highest point in the centre, with the whole city and the sea beyond it. A wide, evening location more than an intimate one.

Temple of Poseidon, Sounion
The columns on the cape at the southern tip of Attica, above the sea. The site has its own rules for photography, so we usually work from the approach and the headland around it at sunset.

National Garden and Zappeion
Shade, palms and neoclassical columns in the middle of the city. Useful in summer, when the open hills are too bright until late.

When to marry in Athens, and at what hour
April to June
Clear, warm and green, with wildflowers on the hills. The light is bright but not yet brutal, and the evenings are long and soft over the Acropolis.
July to August
Hot and very bright. Ceremonies move to the evening, and the coast is cooler than the city. Summer winds on the Aegean can make the seaside venues gusty.
September to October
The sea is at its warmest, the heat eases and the late light is warm and low. A good season for both the city and the Riviera.

- The centre and the Riviera are separate worlds in traffic. Moving guests between a city church and a coastal venue takes longer than the map suggests, especially on a summer evening.
- Archaeological sites, including the Acropolis and Sounion, are managed by the Ministry of Culture and have their own rules for professional photography. Your planner will confirm what is possible; the hills around them are usually the better frame anyway.
- Summer heat in the city is serious. Portraits happen in the late afternoon and evening, and shade is planned rather than hoped for.
- Orthodox and civil ceremonies each have their own documentation for couples marrying from abroad; your planner or the local registry will confirm what you need.

Exact pricing is on request: each wedding is quoted individually on the date, the locations, the hours and the travel between city and coast, in reply to your inquiry.
Travel and timing are planned around your wedding. Before the day we work out where the Acropolis or the sea sits in the frame at your ceremony hour, and time the drive between church, portraits and reception. When it helps, we can arrive early to see the venue at that hour, or add a short sunset session on Philopappos Hill; both are agreed per inquiry.
Travel and accommodation are quoted separately, itemised and at cost. You receive a preview set within seven days and the complete edited set within eight weeks, with a private online gallery, full-resolution downloads and a personal print release. A second photographer, a welcome dinner or a morning-after session are available as additions.

- Can you photograph a Greek Orthodox ceremony?
- Yes. The service has several short, meaningful moments — the exchange of the crowns, the common cup, the walk around the table — and we position ourselves for each in advance. Some churches have their own guidance for photographers during the service, and we follow it.

- The last hour or two before sunset, when the marble of the Acropolis turns warm and the heat eases. Sunrise is the quiet alternative for the hills and Plaka. Midday in summer is hard, flat light, so we keep it for indoor moments and shade.
- How far ahead should we book?
- For a summer or September date, nine to fifteen months ahead is typical. Spring dates and elopements can usually be arranged with a little less notice.

How far in advance should we book?
Nine to fifteen months ahead is usual for a weekend between May and October, and the most popular dates go first. Weekdays and elopements can often be arranged with less notice, so a closer date is always worth asking about.
Do you photograph intimate weddings and elopements?
Yes — often. An elopement or a wedding of a dozen guests gets the same care as a large one, with coverage from €850 for one to two hours and help choosing the places and the hour.
Can you photograph weddings at our venue?
Almost certainly. We work at venues across Athens and beyond, and if we have not photographed yours we plan it from the light, the layout and the timeline before the day. Tell us the venue when you check your date.
Do you travel outside Athens?
Yes. We photograph weddings across Greece, the rest of Europe and the United States. Travel is quoted separately, itemised and at cost, so you can see exactly what it adds.
How many photographs will we receive?
It depends on the day rather than the clock: a full day usually comes to several hundred edited photographs, an elopement fewer. We do not set a minimum, because a number becomes a target — everything worth keeping is delivered.
When will we receive our gallery?
A preview within seven days, then the complete edited gallery within eight weeks for a wedding and four weeks for an elopement, with high-resolution downloads and personal printing rights.
Do you require a deposit to book?
Yes. A short agreement and a booking deposit reserve your date, and the deposit is part of the total, not added to it. The balance is due before the wedding.
What happens if the weather changes?
We plan a covered alternative for the portraits with you before the day and adapt the timing on the day itself. Soft rain and cloud can make beautiful photographs; nobody is sent out into a storm.
