  Eighteenth-century palace hotel, Sintra

  A neoclassical palace with a triumphal arch and formal lawns looking out towards the Pena Palace on the ridge. The lawns are open to the evening sun, and the hills behind them hold the mist longer than the city does.

• Penha Longa Resort

  Resort around a sixteenth-century monastery, Sintra

  A monastery, cloister and chapel inside the Sintra-Cascais natural park. The stone cloister gives soft, even light through the middle of the day, and the grounds are large enough that portraits need not leave the property.

• Convento do Beato

  Former convent, eastern Lisbon

  Vaulted halls and a monumental stone stair in a converted convent near the river. Large, dramatic interiors that depend on window light by day and on careful lighting after dark.

• Pestana Palace

  Turn-of-the-century palace hotel, Alcântara

  A restored palace with gilded salons and a garden on the slope above the river. The garden is the portrait space; the salons are ornate and suit available light rather than flash.

• Fortaleza do Guincho

  Seventeenth-century fort hotel, Cascais coast

  A small fort on the rocks at the end of Guincho beach, with the ocean on three sides. The west-facing terrace gets the sunset directly, and the wind comes with it.

• —Sintra, Cascais and central Lisbon are close on a map and slow in summer traffic, and Sintra’s historic centre has narrow roads with restricted access. Build the day around one base.
• —Sintra has its own microclimate. Mist and cloud are common when Lisbon is clear, so an indoor or covered alternative for the ceremony and a second portrait location are part of the plan, not a fallback.
• —The palaces and monuments in Sintra and Belém are run by their own operators, who set the rules and any fees for professional photography. We check current terms with your planner well ahead of the date.
• —Civil marriage in Portugal for foreign couples involves paperwork through the registry that takes time. Many couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here; your planner or the local registry will confirm what applies to you.

How much does a wedding photographer cost in Lisbon?

Our Half Day coverage starts from €1,450 for up to five hours, Full Day coverage from €2,250 for up to ten hours, and Destination Wedding coverage from €2,950 for the full day. Elopements start from €850 for two hours. Travel is itemised at cost, and your exact quote depends on the date, hours and travel; we send it in reply to your inquiry.

How far ahead should we book for a Lisbon or Sintra wedding?

For a date between June and September, nine to fifteen months ahead is typical, and September goes first. Spring and late October dates are easier to find, and elopements can often be arranged at shorter notice.

Can you photograph in Sintra’s palaces?

Often, but on the palaces’ terms rather than ours. The Pena Palace, the Quinta da Regaleira and the other monuments are managed by their operators, who decide whether professional photography is allowed, where, and at what cost. We check current rules for your date and plan the portraits around what is permitted — the forest paths and the town itself are often as good as the palace terraces.

Do we need a permit for photographs in the Alfama?

For a couple and a photographer walking the streets, this is generally treated as ordinary public photography. Larger set-ups, blocked streets, commercial shoots at monuments and drone flights are a different matter, and drones over central Lisbon are tightly restricted. We confirm anything that needs permission well before the day.

What is the best time of day for portraits in Lisbon?

The first hour after sunrise for the city — empty streets and clean light off the river — and the last hour before sunset for the coast. Summer evenings in Portugal run late, so an evening portrait window often falls after dinner has begun, and we plan for that with you.

Can we elope in Lisbon or Sintra?

Yes. Our elopement coverage starts from €850 for two hours, including help with planning the location and timing and with any permits, and the exact price is on request. A sunrise walk through the Alfama, a morning in the Sintra hills or an evening on the cliffs at Cabo da Roca all fit comfortably into two hours.

What happens if Sintra is in fog on our wedding day?

It is common enough that it belongs in the plan from the start. Mist gives soft, even light and a lot of atmosphere in the gardens, so the photographs rarely suffer. What matters is that the ceremony has a covered option and that there is a second place, lower down or on the coast, if you want sun.
