Ceremonies on state park and state beach land need a permit applied for in advance, and Highway 1 can close without much warning, so the plan starts with a permit and a second route rather than a view.
Big Sur is the most dramatic coastline in North America and the least convenient, and those two facts are the same fact. The road is narrow and slow, there is little accommodation, the mobile signal is absent for long stretches, and the fog decides what kind of day you are having. Which is why the weddings here are small, and why the elopement is what this place was made for.
The light is genuinely different from anywhere else on this list. Marine fog sits offshore and comes in over the cliffs in the late afternoon, and when the sun drops behind it the whole coast can go silver and pink for a short while. It is not dependable. When it happens it is some of the most beautiful light on any coast.
Carmel, a short drive north, is the civilised half of the same coastline — a small town of cypress and white sand where guests can actually stay, with the drama a short drive south. Many couples are married in one and photographed in the other.

Do you require a deposit to book?
Yes. A short agreement and a booking deposit reserve your date, and the deposit is part of the total, not added to it. The balance is due before the wedding.

We plan a covered alternative for the portraits with you before the day and adapt the timing on the day itself. Soft rain and cloud can make beautiful photographs; nobody is sent out into a storm.
