British summer evenings are long, especially in the north, which gives late, soft light, but the weather changes quickly, so a wet-weather plan is part of the plan rather than a fallback.

What a United Kingdom wedding is like
The Cotswolds are villages of honey-coloured limestone, manor houses, tithe barns and walled gardens, set in rolling farmland. The light is soft and often diffused by cloud, which suits the stone and the faces alike, and on a clear June evening it lasts for a very long time.
London offers a different kind of wedding: register offices and old churches, private rooms, townhouses, museums and gardens, with the parks and the river for portraits. The city’s overcast light is kind, and its streets give a great deal of character within a short walk. In the Scottish Highlands the scale changes completely: glens, lochs, castles and mountains, where rain and sun can follow each other within minutes and the summer twilight lingers late into the night.
A British wedding has a recognisable shape: a ceremony in the early afternoon, a drinks reception, the wedding breakfast with speeches, a first dance and an evening party, sometimes with more guests arriving for it. Practicalities
Before you plan
The season runs from May to September, with June giving the longest evenings. The Cotswolds and London work well into autumn, while the Highlands are at their most accessible in late spring and summer, when the days are long, though midges can be a nuisance near water. For peak summer dates, booking nine to fifteen months ahead is typical.
In England and Wales, legal ceremonies take place in register offices, approved venues and religious buildings, and giving notice involves residency requirements and a waiting period. Scotland has its own system and is generally more flexible about where a ceremony can take place. Many overseas couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here. The local registrar or your planner will confirm what applies to you.
The Cotswolds are an easy trip from London by train or car, though the villages themselves need a car. The Highlands are reached by train or flight to Inverness or by road from Edinburgh and Glasgow, and distances there are long on single-track roads, so venues and portrait locations are best kept close together.

Getting married in the United Kingdom
How much does a wedding photographer cost in the UK?
We quote the UK in euros. Our weddings start at €1,450 for Half Day coverage of up to five hours with one photographer, €2,250 for Full Day coverage of up to ten hours, and €2,950 for a Destination Wedding covering the full day. Elopements start at €850. Travel and accommodation are quoted separately, itemised and at cost, and exact pricing is on request through the inquiry form.
Can you photograph a London register office wedding?
Yes. Register office ceremonies are short, so they suit our Half Day or Elopement commissions, often followed by portraits in nearby streets or a park and a lunch or dinner with guests. Each office has its own rules about photography during the ceremony, which we check beforehand.
Do we need a wet-weather plan for a Cotswolds wedding?
Yes, always. The good news is that a barn, an orangery or a covered doorway photographs well in rain, and soft grey light is kind to faces. We look at the wet-weather options with you before the day so that rain changes the location, not the photographs.
Can we elope in the Scottish Highlands?
Yes, and few landscapes in Europe suit an elopement as well. Our Elopement commission starts at €850 for two hours with one photographer, with help choosing the place and the hour, and with any permission a location needs. The registrar will confirm the legal requirements for the ceremony itself.
What is the best time of year for a wedding in Scotland?
Late May to early September gives the longest days and the most reliable access to remote places. The light in the far north lingers very late in June. Autumn brings colour to the glens and fewer visitors, with shorter days to plan around.
How far ahead should we book for a summer wedding in the UK?
Nine to fifteen months is typical for a Saturday between May and September, and popular Cotswolds venues often book further ahead than that. Weekdays and quieter months are more flexible.
