Wedding photography in Porto & the Douro
We photograph weddings and elopements in Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia and the Douro Valley — riverside palaces and terraces in the city, and wine quintas among the vineyard terraces around Pinhão and Peso da Régua.
The key planning truth is that the city and the valley are two different weddings: Porto is quick to reach and full of options, while the Douro is a journey, and a valley quinta works best when guests stay there rather than travelling up and back in a day.
Porto is built steeply on the north bank of the Douro, granite and tile stacked above the river, with the port lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia facing it from the other side. The city is darker in tone than Lisbon and more dramatic for it. In the evening the low sun comes down the river from the west and lights the Ribeira and the iron arch of the Dom Luís I bridge at the same time.
Upstream, the Douro Valley is one of the oldest demarcated wine regions in the world, and it looks it: steep schist slopes cut into terraces, the river folding between them, and white quintas set among the vines. The valley is hot in summer and deep, so the sun leaves the river well before it leaves the hilltops, and the best light is often found by climbing rather than waiting.
The harvest runs through late summer and early autumn, which is when the valley is most alive and when the quintas are at their busiest. Couples who want the vines in leaf and the grapes on them should say so early; couples who want the terraces turning red and gold should look at the weeks after.

The terrace by the monastery on the Gaia side, above the Dom Luís I bridge. The classic view of Porto across the river, at its best in the last hour of the day and in blue hour when the city lights come on.

How far in advance should we book?
Nine to fifteen months ahead is usual for a weekend between May and October, and the most popular dates go first. Weekdays and elopements can often be arranged with less notice, so a closer date is always worth asking about.
Do you photograph intimate weddings and elopements?
Yes — often. An elopement or a wedding of a dozen guests gets the same care as a large one, with coverage from €850 for one to two hours and help choosing the places and the hour.
Can you photograph weddings at our venue?
Almost certainly. We work at venues across Porto & the Douro and beyond, and if we have not photographed yours we plan it from the light, the layout and the timeline before the day. Tell us the venue when you check your date.
Do you travel outside Porto & the Douro?
Yes. We photograph weddings across Portugal, the rest of Europe and the United States. Travel is quoted separately, itemised and at cost, so you can see exactly what it adds.
How many photographs will we receive?
It depends on the day rather than the clock: a full day usually comes to several hundred edited photographs, an elopement fewer. We do not set a minimum, because a number becomes a target — everything worth keeping is delivered.
When will we receive our gallery?
A preview within seven days, then the complete edited gallery within eight weeks for a wedding and four weeks for an elopement, with high-resolution downloads and personal printing rights.
Do you require a deposit to book?
Yes. A short agreement and a booking deposit reserve your date, and the deposit is part of the total, not added to it. The balance is due before the wedding.
What happens if the weather changes?
We plan a covered alternative for the portraits with you before the day and adapt the timing on the day itself. Soft rain and cloud can make beautiful photographs; nobody is sent out into a storm.
